We ventured to our first show of 2026!

Once we stopped trying to talk ourselves out of going to a show “it’s too cold, I’m not ready, it’s too early, what about foaling?” and started listening to the better half of our brains “this is why we have ponies and work hard all winter… to get out, meet friends, and actually enjoy it (and we’ll only work if we don’t!)” everything changed.

So glad we finally got motivated and ventured out to our first show!

Despite the clock change and an early start, we headed off to the Somerset Shetland Show with Snelsmore Aragorn, plus a last-minute change of plan bringing along an empty broodmare, Snelsmore Venus.

Aragorn started our day with a win in the three-year-old class, followed by Junior Champion. Then it was Venus’s turn. Having had three foals, we decided to leave her empty this time to give her a well-earned break from motherhood, and she has wintered well. She quickly got back into the swing of showing and, despite never having been indoors before, went on to win her mare class and take the Senior Championship.

The weather was freezing, with a bitter wind, but we kept going as both ponies headed into the Miniature Overall Championship. Venus was chosen as the Miniature Champion, with Aragorn as Reserve. It just goes to show you should never doubt yourself and should enjoy every moment.
