After a busy time at the stud and a few sleepless nights foaling, we left 20 minutes later than we really should have for our second show of the season at Stretcholt Equestrian Centre on 11th of April. Even though we had been to Stretcholt before, I didn’t read the Google directions properly. We took a wrong exit off a roundabout and found ourselves heading completely the wrong way. At that point, having the extra 20 minutes would have been really useful.
We eventually arrived late and a little hassled with no time to spare. However that didn’t last long; our mood was uplifted as we started off well with Snelsmore Nevada winning the Stallion class. Still feeling a little rushed and sluggish due a missed cup of tea, we soldier on with Snelsmore Lalique and she rewarded us with a win in the Mare class.
Now it was the turn of our two young novice ponies. This was Snelsmore Phoebe’s second outing in the ring and she followed her success from the Southern Group Show the week before, by winning the three-year class. Snelsmore Rouge, a lovely bay yearling filly by Snelsmore Mandrake, made her first appearance to the ring and did so with our final win. With all four ponies going into the championship it was going to be an interesting out come with only two handlers.
We were delighted that our judge Mr Bailey chose Phoebe as his Junior Champion and the Reserve Junior Champion went to little Rouge. It was now time for Lalique and Nevada to battled it out for the Senior Championship. This time Lalique came out on top and went on to take the Supreme Championship. A good day for the girls.
With the championship over, we finally got a chance to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of tea. I had to admit I was wrong and not the best directions reader, which was tough but apologies accepted we had a good journey home in time to watch the Grand National.
