It feels like such a long time ago now that we first decided we would like a Shetland pony. One evening, after spotting an advert in Horse & Hound, we went to view a mare. However, Cliff completely fell in love with a very wild chestnut colt foal, and, as is so often the case, we came home with both.
The mare was a naughty little grey pony called Stranduff Mischief, who went on to breed thirteen foals here at Snelsmore Stud. We named our little colt Za Za Rac, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Za Za Rac is an extraordinary little pony. Even at twenty-seven years old, he loved to be noticed. With his abundance of feather, flowing mane and tail, he struts around the stud like the king of all he surveys. Sensible and quiet behaviour has never really been his style!
Over the years, he has sired some wonderful stock for us, and we truly cannot imagine life at Snelsmore without him. We are therefore especially proud to receive this award second place in the Sires National Awards Scheme, along with a Breeder Recognition for Snelsmore Stud.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without his sons and daughters, who have done him proud. Za Za Rac certainly deserves an extra little pat and perhaps knows it too.
