Devon County Agricultural show: Three in a row

Busy weekend with its up and downs;

Early Friday evening Oasis had a lovely bay filly by Mandrake,with no complications so luckily an early night for Cliff and I as we were off to a show the next morning. The alarm was set at two-thirty and it seemed to ring louder than normal it was time to get up. Having put the kettle on to boil still sleepy eyed and in my pyjamas, I wondered off the check the mares before I drank my much needed cup of tea, couldn’t believe my timing Mystique had just deliver another bay filly by Jasper. Perfect with both fillies safely tucked into their stables we left for Devon County, a little late but made up good time to arrive at seven o’clock, sadly It wasn’t our day not obviously not the judges type but could be more pleased with our ponies they couldn’t do any more. So, pleased with our youngsters. It was the first time Targaryen had travelled on her own, she coped well with the atmosphere of her first county show too, just beaten by two more mature yearlings on the day. Sundance was second moved amazing. Lalique and Nevada both had place rosettes but to be honest couldn’t wait to make the two and half hour journey home to check the foals it was so exciting and such a relieve to see them both bouncing around their stables and doing all the right things. Think it was time too celebrate two beautiful healthy bay fillies better than any rosette. Little did I know my day wasn’t over yet, Opal give birth to a tiny piebald filly a month early later that evening. All three mare’s and foals are doing well, bringing our total to twelve now, back on foal watch with something stronger than tea this time while Cliff catches up on some sleep.
