Double trouble for Brambles

After our recent evening calving Patsy I was hoping for an easier calving from Brambles, and it was; Just how the book said it should be. It was 12 o’clock in the morning and Brambles was showing all the right signs in her appearance that she was about to calf, the loss of the mucus plug, she seemed uncomfortable, switching her tail and appearing restless, repeatedly lying down and get up again. We had work to do but kept checking on Brambles for the arrival of her calf. A few hours passed when she finally gave birth, the calf legs and head could be seen very clearly and the rest followed. It wasn’t long before she was on her feet licking her calf along with some reassuring mooing. So we left her bond peacefully with her daughter. With the calf born we decided Cliff and I could relax slightly and slip away to collect Shamrock for a nearby field before it became dark. Little did we know that we would return home to find a second pair of legs appearing, another set of twins. Two little black heifers I joked about how big she was but didn’t really think it would be possible, her second set of twins. Bramble’s is such an attentive mother constantly caring for her two daughters, Holly and Ivy. It’s so lovely to wasted time to watch and listen to Brambles reassuring them. she is definitely one in a million.
