The Downs Group show & North Somerset Agricultural Show: Heavy Showers and Sunshine

It’s been a really busy time on the stud recently, three more foals have been born safely this week and all doing well, also preparing seven ponies to show for the Bank holiday weekend. We were rewarded with a lovely day on Sunday for the Downs group show, at Buckhurst Park, Sussex.  Even though we had a wet start our day ending with a perfect result. Our two yearling fillies Snelsmore Ribbon and Snelsmore Rouge were first to go and unfortunately had the worst of the weather. Ribbon and I reluctantly crept out of the lorry in during a heavy down pour, considering she didn’t really think much of her first bath yesterday showing a big dislike to water, I was delighted to get a second place with her in the Novice class. Next was the turn of Snelsmore Rouge who on this occasion could only manage a third place perhaps we will put this one down to the bad weather. Slowly the weather and our luck improved, Snelsmore Oceana and Snelsmore Mystique both won their classes. With no help from the two girls Snelsmore Jasper won the stallion class. Both girls decided to take a fancy to him and come into season, secretly enjoying all the attention from the ladies Jasper found it hard to behave but contain himself enough to win.  Finally still wearing my soaked straw hat clearly marked not suitable for wet weather Mrs Davenport picked Oceana and I to win the Miniature Champion & Reserve Supreme and Mystique led by Alan on this occasion, was the Reserve Miniature Champion. Although if Jasper could talk he would most probably say he will get the best prize of the lot, a chance to cover one of the girls when he gets home.
Early the next morning left for The North Somerset Agricultural show with two different boys, Snelsmore Pavarotti and Snelsmore Nevada. This was the first time we had entered for this show so I was looking forward to new adventure and a slightly easier day. We were really pleased with both of their results, Mrs J Lonsdale chose Nevada second in a strong  four years & over class and Pavarroti won the three years & under class and Overall Junior Champion. It was a lovely country show and I have a feeling we will be returning next year.
