It’s early March and I can’t believe it’s our first show of the year. It always seems the hardest show, getting back into the old routine is tough after the winter plus the unpredictable nature of the March weather makes it hard to decide whether to wash the ponies or not before hand. On this occasion I knew I was taking coloured ponies so I really had no choice; in the days leading up to the show I knuckled down to the job in hand washing and drying the ponies.
The day’s showing started with our two yearlings Snelsmore Q-Me and the more experienced Snelsmore Quick Silver; both took well deserved second places. We were particularly pleased with little Q-Me as this was her first outing. Snelsmore Orchid was a little star and won her class. If this wasn’t enough to be pleased about she also went on to be Miniature Junior Champion and Reserve overall Miniature Champion. We were obviously thrilled with the result.
However, it’s not always about the big wins, showing is also about getting the ponies into the ring for some needed practice. While Snelsmore Madonna may have looked amazing, pure white thanks to all my scrubbing, she could only manage a fifth place. It was a tough class and we were still pleased with her performance. When it comes to showing, practice makes perfect and for her first time out this year, I was pleased that Madonna kept her cool and showed as best she could; it was simply not her day.
All-in-all we were really delighted with the ponies and it was lovely to catch up with all our old friends after a long winters break. Onto the next one, see you all at the Southern Group Show.
