Skeleton Atavism testing results; Good results for the stud

As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible breeding, in 2025 we decided to extend our Skeleton Atavism (SA) testing programme to include two additional mares: Snelsmore Quesdesha and Snelsmore Miss Muffet.

Snelsmore Quesdesha was selected for testing primarily due to her two-year-old colt, Snelsmore Amirite, who is entered for the Worcester Shetland Sales. Having Quesdesha’s SA status confirmed will significantly strengthen Amirite’s credentials. He is already tested Homozygous Tobiano (TT) and has been Voluntarily Vetted (VV), so adding SA results to the catalogue will provide a complete profile.

An added benefit of testing Quesdesha is the confirmation of SA status for her daughter, Snelsmore Celeste. As Celeste is by our SA-clear stallion Snelsmore Warwick, she will be SA clear by parentage, allowing us to gain two results from one test.

Snelsmore Miss Muffet was also included in the programme as she has a two-year-old colt, Snelsmore Aragorn, for whom we have future stud plans. Knowing his SA status is an important part of those plans. Aragorn is by the SA-clear stallion Kerswell Matelot, meaning he too will be SA clear by parentage once his dam’s status is confirmed.

We are pleased to confirm that both Snelsmore Quesdesha and Snelsmore Miss Muffet tested SA clear, providing further reassurance and transparency within our breeding programme and confirming SA-clear status by parentage for their respective offspring.
