Can’t believe the show season has come around so quickly. The winter seems to have ended and spring is finally here. The snowdrops have just about finished and daffodils are almost in full bloom. Unfortunately it’s not quite t-shirt weather though, I still need my winter leggings and a fleece coat as there is a bit of a chill in the air.The mares are looking well and some very heavy but no foals running around the paddocks here at Snelsmore Farm yet.
The 2015 show season has started well. On the 22nd of March we made the trip to Kingfisher Equestrian Centre in Somerset for the Wessex Group Spring Show. I decided to pick three of my easiest fillies, as the preparation has a little more difficult than normal with Cliff still recovering from his hernia operation and the workload is piling up.
Our yearling filly Snelsmore Ruby Tuesday made a reappearance into the show ring for our judge, Mrs. Davenport, to pick her to win the yearling filly class and Reserve Junior Champion. Snelsmore Quedesha wasn’t so lucky, she could only take the third place in the two-year class. Quedesha didn’t really seem to sparkle like I know she can, but thinking about it afterwards she was a late foal and will most probably be a better filly later in the season as she was last year.
The day ended with my favourite piebald mare Snelsmore Lalique. Lalique never fails to please me, apart from a slight accident in her tail (and on my gloves), she was foot perfect, winning the Mare class and Reserve Senior Champion.
Our next show is The Southern Group show on the 5th of April at Priory Equestrian Centre, which will be a completely different experience for us, organizing a show and not completing. Finger’s crossed we have enough support to make it a nice day!
