It was lucky the Wessex summer show on the 23rd of August was held indoors at the Kingfisher Equestrian centre Lovington, as it was typical British weather, sunshine and showers. I didn’t really feel very inspired getting the ponies washed in heavy rain storms the day before, certainly didn’t make it feel much like summer. On the day for all of us it meant a rush from the lorry to the indoor school between some heavy down pours, but it didn’t seem to dampen our spirits.
We took lots of babies with us, desperate to get some education into them before the season ends. At the very last moment we decided to take Snelsmore Raphael instead of Snelsmore Rembrandt, he behaved really well in the ring for Mrs Wright getting a second place in the Novice class just beating Snelsmore Ragdoll also having her first experience in the show ring. Raphael took all in his stride so we also entered him yearling colt class where he was placed third, so it was a good educational day for him. Snelsmore Roxanne was our little star although she has not been shown since May she performed beautifully to win the yearling filly class. Snelsmore Pavarotti and Snelsmore Oceana had second places in their classes while Snelsmore Querl always enjoys her showing making my job that much easier, together we won a strong two year old class. The sun came out, just in time for Roxanne to win the reserve Junior championship. What a change in the weather, it made our journey home on the A303 a little more pleasant didn’t even mind about the heavy queuing at Stonehenge, just appreciated the lovely sunshine and the fact we were warm and dry.
